Who says no to this Portuguese giant? - The Special One touches down for talks
The veteran manager declares he is close to being appointed Benfica manager after arriving in Lisbon for discussions with the Portuguese club.
The 62-year-old is expected to replace Bruno Lage, who was sacked following Tuesday's Champions League loss at home against the Azerbaijani side.
The 62-year-old has only been out of work for less than a month after being released by the Turkish outfit.
"Benfica officially asked me if I was interested. Which manager says no to such an opportunity? Not me," he told the media after arriving in the city. "When I was presented with the opportunity to coach them, I didn't hesitate to say that I'm interested, that I'd like to."
Mourinho began his managerial career with Benfica in the year 2000 but took charge of only a handful of matches and departed after a dispute with the club chairman.
He then rose to prominence with FC Porto between 2002-2004, winning six trophies - including the UCL in 2003-04.
Since leaving his native country in 2004, he has managed Chelsea, Inter, Los Blancos, United, Spurs, AS Roma and the Turkish club.
The coach left the Turkish club on 29 August, two days after they were eliminated from the Champions League play-offs by Benfica.
If Benfica appoint Mourinho, he would face Chelsea in the Champions League at their home ground on 30 September.
Benfica also visit Newcastle and host the Spanish giants later in the group stage of the competition.
