The visitor sustained injuries to his upper body and upper extremity during Tuesday’s attack on the backcountry path north-east of the park's large water body.
The hiker came across the bear roughly 2.5 miles into the wilderness and used deterrent spray as the animal began its charge, according to representatives.
Park rangers escorted the victim. He was then moved to a medical station and later airlifted to a nearby hospital.
