Ex- FBI head James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to giving untrue testimony to congressional representatives and impeding a legislative process.

His legal representative entered the response representing him in a national courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.

The defense lawyer announced he would attempt to have the proceedings terminated for various causes including that his client, a critic of President Donald Trump, was being targeted.

The former director was indicted shortly after Donald Trump urged his attorney general to move forward against him.

Court Developments

During the hearing on Wednesday, Comey's lawyer Patrick Fitzgerald informed the judge they aimed to file several petitions to dismiss the case before a legal hearing, stating the legal action was retaliatory and that a government lawyer was improperly designated to handle the legal matter.

James Comey's proceedings was initially handled by the original attorney, who left his position under scrutiny from Donald Trump after his examination into a different opponent - NY AG Letitia James - was unable to initiate prosecution.

Legal Setting

James Comey seemed in positive mood as he came into the legal venue on mid-week, speaking with his attorneys and making jokes. He was supported by his partner, Patrice Failor and child Maureen Comey, a federal prosecutor who the former government terminated.

Following the reading to the court read his constitutional guarantees and the dual charges against him in court on mid-week, the defendant was inquired if he comprehended the allegations.

"I do your honour. Thank you very much," he told the proceedings.

Historical Information

Mr Comey was the head of the FBI from 2013 to 2017 and was dismissed about a few months into the former president's first administration as president. At the period, he was overseeing an investigation into international campaign influence and whether there were any links between Russia and the presidential campaign.

During his tenure, James Comey triggered a counter-response from Democrats when he announced just immediately preceding the 2016 presidential election that he was examining Democratic candidate the candidate's use of a non-governmental email account. Charges against Hillary Clinton were not filed, leading to disapproval from conservative politicians as well.

Current Allegations

Government attorneys allege James Comey gave untrue statements to US lawmakers during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in September 2020 when he was being questioned about both the previous examination as well as the Russia election probe. They say he provided false information to the Senate by saying he had not approved someone at the FBI to release to media organizations details about the government examinations.

Government lawyers also accuse James Comey of "improperly attempting to influence, hinder and slow" the legislative group by providing untrue information to it.

Personal Comments

Through a recording Mr Comey published to his social media after he was indicted, he said he was wrongly accused and charged the former president of acting like a "tyrant".

"Our household have been aware for a long time that there are consequences to challenging Mr Trump," he commented. "We choose not to live on our knees."
"I have done nothing wrong," he added. "Therefore proceed with a trial."

These allegations against the former director surfaced after the former president posted on social media calling for his chief prosecutor, the attorney general, prosecute the former director and others.
