Diving into a Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop with the Goal to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have discovered a variety of entertaining independent titles. Yet, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure includes a hero that is actually a turd trying to make its way to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: press a single jump button. Throughout numerous challenges, you'll face boss fights and unlock a store to purchase outfits for your dung hero.
Execute your movements with caution, since one error means starting over. Jump using air pockets to launch yourself higher, traverse crumbling ledges, and activate triggers to open new areas. Earn UN-KOINS and use them on tougher levels in which things gets crazy.
Visually, the demo shows off eye-catching stages and catchy background music. Its minimalist art with moving basic polygons could recall fans of classic titles like Earthbound.
While it's tough to recall previous releases where you are a coiled turd, interactive entertainment often incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from protagonist excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as soil enrichment. And of course, fecal references is present a lot in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, such as winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is ready at present on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on PC on November 19.
